NUWAR is one of the next generation of parallel robots, and when completed is expected to be the fastest in the world. NUWAR’s design is based on the parallel arrangement used by Dr Karol Miller and Prof. R. Clavel in the Delta-4 robot. It is currently under construction in the Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering, UWA.

Previously, the Delta-4 was capable of accelerations as high as 500m/s2, and was regarded as a benchmark for speed and precision in the robot world. It was characterised by exceptionally accurate manipulator placement. The NUWAR configuration is expected to bring about improvements in both the workspace (a major problem with parallel robots) and the rigidity of the system. The cream on the cake, though, will be the anticipated new speed record of 600m/s2.

So what can NUWAR do for you?
