We are building it! Overseen by the project's coordinator, Dr Karol Miller, a group of 4th year students within the DMME undertook the initial design & construction in 1998. In 1999 and 2000, the work will be continued with honours projects relating to dynamic analysis, safety considerations, controlling and interfacing, and identifying applications for the robot within industry.

It is anticipated that trials of the fully assembled robot will occur during late 1999.

The team will very shortly be investigating suitable industrial appliations for this highly advanced machine. Parallel mechanisms of this type are yet to make significant inroads in the robotics market, but it is hoped that with the important advances made with NUWAR, the benefits of these machines will be recognised. By overcoming many of the inherrent parallel robot problems, and enhancing the formiddable standards of speed and precision, NUWAR promises great things in the right application.
