Landmines in Lebanon
The map shows the extent of likely mine and/or unexploded ordnance problems in Lebanon (shaded in pink): almost the entire country is affected to some extent. Some areas are extensively contaminated, especially around Beiruit and in the south where Israeli-supported forces are still fighting with Hizbollah guerilla units. The casualy rate is about 200 persons annually which is high compared with other countries of comparable population. A detailed technical report provides information on the problem and potential solutions (to come).
