Demining operations are suspended while visitors like us are present
for safety reasons. Many of the photos which follow were kindly taken for
me by "Steve" (Maj Cote's driver) during inspection visits to
several minefields.

"Frag" pit where metal pieces are collected. They will
normally be consolidated in a larger pit before being released for local
people to sell as scap metal.

Metal detector test - a standardised target is buried in soil similar
to the demining location nearby. This checks that the detector is working
properly.
This is a Schiebel detector.
Laterite in soil is a major problem in some areas which the Australian
Minelab detector overcomes.
